NAKHEEL SIGNS A PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT WITH ROADS AND TRANSPORTS AUTHORITY (RTA)

Work is well underway on our master development, Dubai Islands. The project, which will redefine waterfront living consists of five interconnected islands, located within easy access to Dubai’s landmarks as well as the Dubai International airport.

Spanning nearly 17 square kilometers, Dubai Islands will be home to luxurious residential and recreational hubs, with the recent launch of Rixos Dubai Islands Hotel and Residences demonstrating the demand for properties on the islands.

As part of the development of Dubai Islands, Nakheel is aiming to add to the urban infrastructure to ease the process of transportation and mobility. This comes in support of the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to complete the Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement project, and under the follow up of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council.

As such, Nakheel signed an agreement with Roads and Transports Authority (RTA) to build direct entrances and exits to Dubai Islands from Bur Dubai, with the bridge spanning 1,425 metres, with four lanes in either direction and designated spaces for pedestrians and cyclists. Entrance points will start from Bur Dubai and lead directly into Dubai Islands. The bridges will extend across the Dubai Creek, between the Infinity Bridge and Port Rashid Development project.

Nakheel’s Chairman of the Board of Directors, His Excellency Mohammed Ibrahim Al Shaibani, attended the signing ceremony to formalise the signature on behalf of Nakheel. His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors signed on behalf of Roads and Transports Authority (RTA).

The event was also attended by our Group CEO, Mr. Naaman Atallah. Senior leaders and directors from the Roads and Transports Authority (RTA) and Nakheel were also present.

This project will play a vital role managing the traffic load. With a total capacity of 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions, both congestion rate and driving time are expected to reduce significantly, thus making it much smoother for motorists to move within this critical part of Dubai. The project is set to complete in 2026.
